They’ll be uniform and easier to use than random chunks of wood, unless you have a large gap to fill, in which case you should just get a piece of wood cut to fit it.
No additives, chemicals or preservatives have been added to the wood that is used in the wood blocks. Here’s a link to the ones i found, but there are literally dozens of options.
